Carole Ann McDaniel Mobley of Campbellsville died October 2, 2026 of natural causes at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was 88.
Carole Mobley was born on March 24, 1938 to Charles Hampton McDaniel and Alice Sue Harris McDaniel in Maryville, Tennessee. Her family moved to Lexington in 1952 and she graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1956 as Valedictorian. Carole met Russell Glen Mobley in Chemistry class during her first semester at the University of Kentucky. On their first date in December they saw “Fantasia” at the Kentucky Theatre. They wed a month later in January 1957 and were married for over 61 years, until Russell’s death in 2018.
Carole Mobley graduated first in her class from the U.K. School of Pharmacy in 1961. As commencement photos testify by then she had given birth to four children, the twins Greg and Jeff (1957), Stephanie (1959), and Suzanne (1960). A fifth child, Joel, was born in 1966. Through the 1960's the family lived in Chevy Chase and Carole worked in retail pharmacy in Lexington. In 1971 they moved to Campbellsville where she lived for over four decades. She served as Director of Pharmacy at Taylor County Regional Hospital from 1974-2000. After retirement she continued to work in retail pharmacy for twelve years.
Carole Mobley was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church (Lexington) and Campbellsville Baptist Church. Her Christian faith was central to her life: she sang in choirs, was a soprano soloist, taught Sunday School, and was committed to a daily discipline of prayer and the reading of the Bible and devotional literature.
Carole Mobley is survived by her five children, Gregory Mobley and his wife Constance Brown of New Haven, Connecticut; Jeffrey Mobley of Nashville, Tennessee; Stephanie Mobley Woodie of Berea; Suzanne Mobley Bennett and her husband Joel Bennett of Lexington; and Joel Mobley and his wife Mary Beth Edwards Mobley of Oxford, Mississippi. She is survived by 13 grandchildren: Hannah Bennett (Paul Oliva) of Lexington; Daniel Bennett (Kiley Shuffett) of Lexington; Lydia Bennett of Nashville; Hunter Mobley (Bradley Hickman) of Nashville; Holden Mobley (Olivia Sweitzer) of Nashville; Campbell Mobley of Palm Beach, Florida; Esther Mobley (Will Carle) of Newton, Massachusetts; Gregory Kelley (Elizabeth Noyes) of Boston, Massachusetts; Thomas Mobley of Boston, Massachusetts; Eli Woodie (Ashtin Faulkner) of Franklin, Tennessee; Abigail Woodie (Brandon Bailey) of Lexington; Max Mobley of Oxford, Mississippi; and Alex Mobley of Oxford, Mississippi; and great-grandchildren Harper Bennett, Belle Mobley, Stuart Bratton, Lavender Oliva, Lane Woodie, Micah Bennett, Julia Carle, Marigold Oliva, the twins Hampton and Silas Woodie, Caroline Carle, Camille Kelley, and Della Mobley. Other daughter- and son-in-laws are Diana Bain Mobley of Nashville; Mary Page Kelley of Boston, Massachusetts, and Luke Woodie of Berea.
With a full professional life, Carole Mobley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; a mentor to many young pharmacists whom she trained and supervised; and a steadfast friend to many. From 2000-08 Carole volunteered as executive assistant to Russ when he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives representing the 51st district (Taylor and Adair counties). Carole and Russ enjoyed travel all over the globe, especially annual trips to New York City for the latest Broadway productions. She dearly loved her friends and attended monthly lunches with her Henry Clay classmates. Recently she rekindled old friendships and made new ones at McCready Manor in Richmond, her home from 2020-2026. Carole’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always treasure her unconditional love, support and encouragement.
A memorial service will be held on November 21 at 3 pm at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The family will receive friends at Parrott & Ramsey from 1-3 pm that same day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Campbellsville University and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
