Diane Newton

October 11, 1947 — May 13, 2024

Campbellsville

Today, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Diane Clements Newton.  She was born on October 11, 1947 in Clementsville, Kentucky to Basil Thomas Clements and Nora Christine Clements Marples.  Diane grew up with many siblings in the countryside of Possum Trot in Casey County.  She passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 12:07 a.m.

She united in marriage and devoted to James Robert “Robby” Newton on February 12, 1966.  She and Robby lived in Tacoma, Washington while he served in the Army. They have three children and six grandchildren: Gerald and his wife Carissa of Indianapolis, Indiana; Tammy Sluder and her husband, Bernie; Troy Newton and his wife Lesley all of Campbellsville, Ky.  Diane was blessed with six grandchildren who called her “Mammy”: Natalie Hughes and her husband, Cameron; Eric Sluder and his wife, Leigh Ann; Katie Rogers and her husband, Jordan; Chrissy Holian and her husband, Dean; Addison Newton and Owen Newton.  All other friends of children and grandchildren called her “Mammy” as she welcomed them into her home with open arms.

Diane attended St. Bernard Catholic School in Clementsville, Ky.  She learned how to cook under her Mother-In-Law, Elizabeth Newton.   Little did she know she would cook for many people over the years at K & N Restaurant, Cumberland House Restaurant, Union Underwear Restaurant and Taylor Regional Hospital.  Later she and her husband started Newton’s Country Cookin’ Restaurant where they served the best catfish around.  Everyone loved Mammy’s Macaroni and Cheese, Chicken and Dumplings, Meatloaf, Cornbread and Peach Cobbler.  She was known to drink coffee many times everyday and sit on the front porch.

Diane loved to travel and go shopping.  She went to Hawaii with her son Gerald, Carissa and their kids. She talked about the trip and loved every minute of it.  She loved to visit the Great Smoky Mountains and was known to buy every Beanie Baby she could find.  Her last adventure was a trip to visit her son’s home in Indianapolis.

She enjoyed gardening where she raised green beans, corn and tomatoes.  Every Summer she would can vegetables and say, “you’ll be glad of it when winter comes”!   Diane loved working outside in her flowers too.

Diane was sometimes known to be silly as she would sing a Latin song from Catholic School “Ave Maria”.  She loved playing the game of Rook and Aggravation with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robby; her three children, Gerald, Tammy and Troy; and six grandchildren, Natalie Hughes, Katie Rogers, Chrissy Holian, Eric Sluder,  Addison Newton and Owen Newton;  two bonus granddaughters, Bre Miles and Kinley Mitchell; caregivers, Shannon Krebbs and Tara Haulk, her twin brother, David Clements; her best friend and brother, Robert Carol Clements, Jody Clements and his wife, Faye and sister, Charlene Hughes; sister-in-law, Peggy Clements; brothers-in-law, Orville and wife, Rena; Shorty and his wife, Delores; and many other nieces and nephews.

In her childhood, she professed her faith at the St. Bernand Catholic Church and later accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Basil Thomas Clements, her mother, Nora Christine Clements Marples; stepfather, Virgil Doc Marples; her sister, Darlene Appleby and nephew, Michael Appleby; brothers, Gene Clements, Ricky Lee Clements and Buel Thomas Clements; sister-in-law, Martha Nell Benningfield; brothers-in-law, Glen Newton and Dannie Newton.

Diane was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
