Campbellsville

Doris Jean (Harden) Arnold, 93 years old, departed this life on June 19, 2026 at the Bengal Family Care Home, Campbellsville, KY. Doris was born May 5, 1933 in Yuma (Taylor County), KY. She was the daughter of Ed and Betty Jo Harden. December 26, 1950 she married former Navy airplane mechanic and farmer, Charles Wayne Arnold, of Knifley, KY. They were married 49 years before Charles preceded her in death in 1999. She is survived by her five children: Pam (and John) Hurtgen, Chuck (and Sandy) Arnold, Tonya (and Paul) Penick, John (and Lisa) Arnold, and Steve (and Kim) Arnold. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Eric (and Amanda) Hurtgen, Joe (and Rebecca) Hurtgen, Peter Hurtgen; Charlie (and Liz) Arnold; Wes (and Rachel) Penick; Katelyn (and Matthew) McCarol; Meleah Arnold; and Chelsey (and John) Stewart. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Phoenix and Hendrix Hurtgen; Frances and Ira Hurtgen; Jasper Arnold; and Claire and Clement McCarol. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Arnold and Doretha Kilby, and by two brothers, Leroy and Morris Harden. She is survived by one sister, Laura White.

She professed faith in Jesus Christ and was a committed Christian servant and faithful worshiper. She loved her husband, her children, her home and farm, which she moved onto with Charles in 1953. She and Charles raised those five children, teaching them the value of a strong work ethic on a thriving family farm, raising cattle, hogs, chickens, corn, soybeans, and tobacco. Doris was a proud wife, mother, and homemaker, not only feeding her own family, but also workhands, extended family and friends, and the pastor and his family often for Sunday lunch after church. As the grandchildren grew older, they would regularly visit, knowing that grandma would cook them up something good and then sit down and share stories about her life. Doris and Charles always raised a big garden, which they shared with family, neighbors, and friends. Doris would endlessly can and freeze fruits and vegetables for her household for the coming year. Her freezer was usually filled to the top. She loved flowers, planting them all around the garden and house. She was also a skilled seamstress and loved quilting. Doris worked at Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville for over twenty years. She began working there after a serious drought affected their farm income.

Doris loved God and his church. She often assisted in children’s Sunday School, in the nursery, and (in summers) with Vacation Bible School. After Charles passed in 1999, Doris loved to attend weekly women’s prayer services at her church. One final note, when she tested as an eighth-grader to go into Taylor County High School, she placed second highest overall in the county. And, if you ever received a birthday or Christmas card from her, you know what beautiful handwriting she possessed. She was a beautiful, intelligent, godly, loving, and industrious woman, who is now present with her Lord.
