Frank J. Metzmeier

September 7, 1934 — August 29, 2023

Frank J. Metzmeier loved life. He lived with a fierce determination to enjoy everything—big and small—and to improve the world he lived in. His scientific curiosity made him a leader in his 44-year career as a dentist. In his unceasing effort to improve his skills and learn new things, he joined the Panky Study group where he made friends who were also dedicated to excellence. He used his skills to help others by providing free dental care to children in need in the Taylor County School System. Frank was a dedicated follower of Christ. He attended Bethel First Presbyterian where he was part of the men’s study group and served as elder. He adopted the adage, “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.” He was an avid outdoorsman and took seriously his commitment to care for creation. Frank loved to fish and to hunt deer, birds, and squirrel. He was an enthusiastic gardener and shared any surplus vegetables with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed marathon sessions of canning tomatoes or making apple cider. He used his resources to ensure that some of Taylor County would remain a wooded area. Frank lived by the words, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.” This belief led him to take on several leadership roles including serving a term as the president of the Kentucky Dental Association, and serving on the Campbellsville City Council for many years. Frank loved ice cream and fireworks. His 4th of July parties featuring both eventually grew into Campbellsville’s 4th of July celebration. Frank was dedicated to his friends and his family. He was ready and willing to lend a hand at all times. He set the example and frequently admonished his children and grandchildren to do what they loved and to do their best at it. Frank Joseph Metzmeier is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gore Metzmeier, aunt and uncle, Gladys and Elam Moss, and aunt Pauline Frize, all of Campbellsville. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara Lancaster Metzmeier of Campbellsville, brother, Don Gore Metzmeier of Campbellsville, children Dorothy Metzmeier Walker (John) of Clear Spring, MD; Mary Atwood Metzmeier of Cincinnati, OH; and Frank Joseph Metzmeier, Jr. (Trese Frowein) of Monticello, KY. He is also survived by grandchildren Frank Diego Metzmeier and Clara Coleen Marisol Metzmeier of Cincinnati, niece Lorraine Allen of Hurleyville, NY, and many friends.
