JERRY LEE PARKER
Jerry Lee Parker of Campbellsville, son of the late Jesse and Wilhelmina Briggman Parker, was born January 3, 1941 in Tell City, Indiana. He died on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at his home in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Age: 83
Jerry is survived by the love of his life of 61 years, Joretta Mings Parker. He is also survived by one son, Jeremy Parker and wife, Natalie of Campbellsville; two grandchildren: Charli Parker and Jodie Parker of Campbellsville; two sisters: Ann Parker Keltner of Campbellsville and Melinda Smith of Louisville; one sister-in-law: Theresia Collison Campbellsville; six nephews: Todd Parker of Louisville, Greg Rinehart and Kent Parker of Campbellsville, Greg Smith, Brad Smith and Brent Smith of Louisville; two nieces, LeeAnn Underwood and Holly Parker Kessler of Campbellsville and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Jason Lee Parker; a brother, Donnie Parker; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jodie and Opal Mings; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleasia and Donald Rinehart.
Jerry professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. He also served in past years as a Deacon and part-time song leader at Robinson Creek Baptist Church.
Jerry loved to fish and hunt, but his heart was always in basketball. He graduated from Taylor County High School in 1959, having played basketball through his high school years. After graduation from high school, he enrolled in Lindsey Wilson College where he continued his love for basketball. After graduating from Lindsey Wilson College, he enrolled at the University of Tennessee where he was a star athlete for the U of T Volunteers, and after his graduation there, continued his career as an assistant basketball coach for the Volunteers. It is safe to say that there was never a more faithful University of Tennessee Volunteers fan than Jerry Parker.
In later years, he coached basketball at Elizabethtown Catholic School and Campbellsville Independent School, where he led the boy’s basketball team to the State Tournament in 1973. To most people in Campbellsville, Jerry was affectionately known as “Coach Parker”.
