Mildred Matthews White

December 28, 1929 — August 23, 2023

Mildred Matthews White, beloved mother, wife, sister, and aunt of Campbellsville, passed away peacefully on August 23. Born on December 28, 1929, in Fordsville, Ky (Ohio County), to the late Rev. RV Matthews and Anna Belle Clark Matthews. Mildred’s early childhood revolved around her father’s ministry as a Methodist minister. This journey involved moving around western Kentucky until her father’s death in 1939. Her strong mother then moved the family of nine children to Columbia, to be near Lindsey Wilson College to avail her children, as children of the clergy, the opportunity to attend college. In 1947 Mildred married James Louis White. She and James Louis lived in Campbellsville their entire married life but found much joy in travel. Family vacations when the children were younger to broaden their education, Toby Tours bus trips with local friends, and five special trips to Hawaii created wonderful memories for many years. She was a dedicated mother whether she was spending hours and hours on the hot baseball field supporting Mike pitching from Little League to Campbellsville High School baseball teams or delicately working over her sewing machine to reproduce some ‘fashion’ that Connie thought she just had to have. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her son Mike, her husband, one sister: Clara Conover and four brothers: Jessie Matthews, Carroll Matthews, Tom Matthews, and Richard (Dick) Matthews. Mildred was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Campbellsville and enjoyed singing in the church choir, quilting for fundraisers with her quilting buddies, and being available for any and all projects from Women’s Circle to Vacation Bible School…she was there any time the doors were open. Mildred became very enthusiastic with the Guidepost Sweater Project in the 1990s, crocheting over 200 sweaters for needy children. She was an exceptional self-taught quilter and awarded three ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair Quilting competition in 1998, the most coveted one for the statewide second place in the hand-pieced, hand-quilted category. Mildred and James Louis established a Chemistry Scholarship in their daughter’s name at Kentucky Wesleyan College to support other chemistry majors in their college journey. She was also supportive of Lindsey Wilson College and the Rev. RV and Anna Belle Matthews Scholarship for ministerial students and the Rev. RV and Anna Belle Matthews Prayer Room for students to have a space for reflection. Mildred is survived by her daughter: Connie Gayle White, MD (David Webster, DDS) of Frankfort, step-granddaughter: Kimberlyn Headley (Price) and precious great-granddaughter: Elise. She is also survived by three sisters: Tula Matthews Hoover Peterson of Campbellsville, Christine Greenman of Winchester, Indiana, and Virginia Ward (Bill) of Madison, Indiana, as well as 13 nieces and nephews. She has also had the support of Judy Keltner, her companion for 13 years. _______________ VISITATION: 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Rev.
