Phil Allan Bertram

 Phil Allan Bertram of Campbellsville, son of the late Judge George O. Bertram and Golda Risen Bertram, was born May 26, 1941 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died Sunday, November 16, 2025 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Age: 84

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of First Methodist Church where he served in many leadership roles. He served for many years as a Sunday School teacher to children, youth, and adults. He was also a faithful member of the Chancel Choir.

Phil served many years with The Gideons International. He was a regular speaker at area churches on behalf of the organization. He frequently served as an officer of the local camp. He regularly helped distribute scriptures in Kentucky and New York city. He also made distributions in several states and foreign countries including Argentina, Chile, Kenya, and Peru.

Phil was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville School of Law. He was a retired attorney and a partner in the law firm Faulkner, Bertram, and Cox for more than forty years. He was a Life Fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation and a Senior Counselor of the Kentucky Bar Association.

Phil supported education with his gifts and service. He volunteered as a one-on-one mentor to students at various elementary schools. He had served on the Board of Education for Campbellsville Independent School District. He was a member of the President’s Club at Campbellsville University, the President’s Society at Lindsey Wilson College, and the Cupola Society at Western Kentucky University. He was the founding patron of The Martha E. Bertram Christian School in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru.

Phil served his community in many capacities, including the Jaycees, Taylor County Board of Elections, President of the Taylor County Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Brookside Cemetery. He was selected Outstanding Young Man in 1972 by Campbellsville Jaycees. He was selected Citizen of the Year in 1975 and 2021 by Campbellsville Chamber of Commerce.

He united in marriage to Martha L. Ennis March 2, 1963 and she preceded him in death January 1, 2017. He later united in marriage to “Missy” Hong Cam Le October 27, 2024, who survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son and two daughters: Deborah Kay DeMers and husband, Brian of Midway, Judge Allan Ray Bertram and wife, Kelli of Campbellsville, and Martha Phyllis Arnett and husband, Mark of Lexington; six grandchildren: Sierra Kay DeMers, Jacqueline Noel DeMers, Sydney Elizabeth Bertram Jacobs and husband, Sebastian, Madison Nicole Bertram, Marcus Phillip Arnett, and Ava Josephine Arnett; two bonus grandchildren: Cameron Wilson and Chandler Wilson; two step-children: Dr. Kim C. Le of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Kevin Le and wife, Tina of Los Angeles, California; two step-grandchildren: Carson King and Brayden Le; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Phil was also preceded in death by a beloved sister, Kay Risen Bertram Collins on March 2, 1996, and a beloved brother, George Barry Bertram on January 2, 2025.
