Samuel Ray Benningfield, of Campbellsville, son of the late Marvin Benningfield and Ethel Puryear Benningfield, was born January 13, 1929 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 2:52 A.M., Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in Campbellsville.
Age: 96
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Elk Horn Methodist Church.
Sam was a retired bleach house employee with Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.
He united in marriage to Mildred Gaddis December 20, 1947 and she preceded him in death April 23, 2016.
Sam loved spending time with his family and socializing. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Sam is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Donald Walls of Campbellsville; four grandchildren: Chase Walls and wife, Tasha, Tammy Benningfield Cox and Gerald Benningfield and wife, Kerrie of Campbellsville and Chance Walls and wife, Ashton of Hanson, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren: Cole Gribbins, Austin Benningfield, Caleb Benningfield, Kinley Grace Walls and Urban Samuel Walls; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Stanley Eugene Benningfield May 5, 2009; three brothers: James “Bud” Benningfield January 17, 2017, Walter Benningfield July 20, 2015 and Willis Benningfield February 5, 2015 and two half-brothers: Victor Benningfield and Clarence Benningfield.
