Helen F. Newton Vaughn

May 24, 1933 — January 11, 2021

Ms. Helen F. Newton Vaughn departed this life on January 11, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old. Ms. Helen graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1950 at Campbellsville High School. Later that year, she married John William “Bill” Vaughn. They remained married for 55 years. The couple had two sons: Jeffery Alan and John David. Ms. Helen was employed at Fruit of the Loom until her retirement. During her time there, she achieved Assistant Vice President and helped install the company’s GED program to help those who worked with her receive high school diplomas. She was the first female president of the Campbellsville Chamber of Commerce and worked with the Taylor County Library, serving on its board for many years. Ms. Helen joined the Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1951, where she played piano and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was also a leader in their women’s organization. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Virginia “Ginny” Newton; her husband, John Vaughn, a brother, Garnett Newton and her son, Jeff Vaughn. Ms. Helen is survived by a brother, Willard (Marian) Newton; her son, John (Dawn) Vaughn, as well as two grandchildren, Laci Jo and Ruby Vaughn; three step-grandchildren: Cody, Tara and Garrett Rose; three great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Gracie and Brantley.
